Location Overview:
Located on the second floor-north of St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, this clinic provides acute inpatient physical therapy for St. James patients seven days a week.
This hospital location also has a 30-bed acute rehabilitation unit providing advanced physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to patients with a variety of diagnoses. We commonly treat patients after stroke, hip replacement, knee replacement, hip/pelvic fractures, head trauma, generalized weakness/deconditioning, cardiac conditions and back surgery.
An inpatient/outpatient wound clinic is also at this location, open Monday through Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm by appointment.
The rehabilitation department features an advance treadmill system for body weight support. This system allows advanced training for patients who are severely limited in walking function regain gait skills while in a reduced weight state.
The rehabilitation also uses Nintendo Wii gaming system to promote improved postural function, balance and stability in standing or sitting, upper limb range of motion, upper limb functional reach and various benefits to lower limb function.
During the patients recovery the staff will take advantage of the department's simulated home environment and car simulator (if appropriate) to help the patient regain their independence in preparation for returning home.
